Guest Post: Tips for Toddlers and Newborns

Emma from Mummy..Mummy..Mum contacted me following my request on Twitter for advice and experience stories from other second time + mums. Emma is mummy to a a 4 year old, 2 year old and 1 year old so I welcomed her advice and experience with intrigue.
  • I remember the first time I took out an 18 month old and a newborn, after my 2nd baby was born. I got as far as the end of the road and then turned around as both were screaming.
  • These days I'm pretty oblivious of the crying and moaning, I just get to where I have to be. Obviously I try to soothe them, but I don't get worried if they cry anymore. If I did, I'd never go anywhere.  (I hope that doesn't sound too awful)
  • The best advice I can give is to be prepared for everything. Pack your bag the night before with nappies, snacks, spare clothes for both, bibs etc.
  • Be nice to yourself. Don't feel like you have to go to all the baby classes and play dates you used to. I am the worst person for rushing around trying to do everything for everyone, when really the children would rather I was calm and just spent time with them.
  • Encourage your toddler to be as independent as they can. If they can put their own shoes and coat on or play by themselves for a while that helps a well"
Thank you so much for your advice Emma. Its certainly helped boost my confidence, and I hope its able to help others who stumble cross this post too.
