My 1st Years Review

When it comes to gifts for my boys, other than toys, I am a sucker for something special and practical. I like something that can sit on a shelf in their room and follow them through life, but that also has a use, for example a moneybox, or a little pot to put your first lost tooth in or first curl.

We were asked to select a product from My 1st Years to review, and I immediately fell for the wooden Abacus. The colours really popped out at me, especially against the white frame. I thought this would look really nice on Harry's chest of drawers when he is not using them to help him count and practise his colours.
The abacus arrived in a beautiful box, perfect to be reused as a memory box, and was protected inside with bubble wrap.
Harry loved it and sat in his bed playing with it until he was too tired to keep his eyes open. The following morning I went into his room, placed the abacus on his chest of drawers, and admired how lovely they looked against the light cream wall and next to the teddy he was given from his God-Mother when he was born. Although I then made a disappointing discovery.
I had requested for the abacus to be personalised, which is was. With grey text down the left side. When I took the abacus out of the box I noticed that the text was applied using stickers, and not painted on as I expected. I worried about how long the stickers would last, and it seemed it wouldn't be very long at all.
Personalising a product is free but I would pay a few pounds extra to have a name, or date, painted on so it would be durable.

Nevertheless, the abacus is really wonderful without the personalisation, and this wouldn't stop me from purchasing from the site in the future. Prices of products are reasonable, the abacus costs £18 and the quality is very good.

My 1st Years sell a wide range of products from Christening Gifts to New baby gifts, and have items suitable from birth onwards.
