When I was contacted to review the August box, which focuses on 'Last Minute Travel Essentials' I couldn't turn it down and was interested to find out more about how the subscription works and what kind of products would be included.
My initial worries about subscription boxes is that there will be products that either won't suit me or that I simply don't like.
The August box though felt like it was made for me. I liked everything about it.
Included in the box was a clear travel bag which was filled with miniature products as well as an eyeshadow.
Birchbox is a beauty and lifestyle subscription service with 3 different subscription choices. £10 for a monthly recurring subscription (which you can cancel at any time), £50 for a 6 monthly subscription, or £90 for a yearly subscription.
You can create your own beauty profile so that the samples will be tailored just for you, which reassures my original worries of receiving unsuitable products. All items are available to purchase via the online shop and each month you can earn reward points which can be used towards any shop purchases.
Nude ProGeniusTM Omega Treatment Oil
Supergoop!® Daily Correct CC Cream (with SPF Sunscreen)
Wild About Beauty Crème Eyeshadow in 01 - Olivia
Number 4's Lumiere d'Hiver Super Comb Prep & Protect
Liaison de Parfum I Dare You Eau de Parfum
I have no idea where to start when describing each of the items. I truly am excited about all of them.
I have been aware of CC Creams for a while but haven't got round to trying any. I think it was more of a 'I don't see what the fuss is about' attitude really so I was intrigued when I spotted the Supergoop!® Daily Correct CC Cream. The day the box arrived I hadn't done my make up and my eyes were in that 'please put a bit of concealer on me' mood. I don't always wear foundation or concealer, only when I really need it and it just tends to be to balance out my skin tone than to cover anything up. This CC Cream was like magic. As soon as I put it on it completely brightened my skin up and made my eyes look wide awake, and I no longer needed to apply concealer.
I looked close up in the mirror and was amazed that there were no traces of the cream on my face, so it looked completely natural.
I've used the same foundation for years now but I would definitely buy the full size bottle in the future.
My other main favourite is the Nude ProGeniusTM Omega Treatment Oil. I used this after I had used my hot cloth cleanser and then, following the instructions, used 3 pumps of the oil onto my hands, rubbed my hands together and then gently massaged into my face. It made my skin feel really soft and nourished.
I also really like the Wild About Beauty Crème Eyeshadow in 01 - Olivia. Due to the texture it is really easy to apply and gives really great coverage. Unlike some Crème eyeshadows it doesn't crease and disappear as the day goes on. I would definitely look into other colours available in this range.
The Number 4's Lumiere d'Hiver Super Comb Prep & Protect is one of the best leave-in conditioners I have ever tried. I have thick hair and it can get very knotted, especially just after I have washed it, when it is still wet, and this leave-in conditioner made it easy to brush and style my hair, and gave me extra protection against the heat from my hairdryer and straighteners.
The Liaison de Parfum I Dare You Eau de Parfum is a really nice scent, and although I do like it I will be passing it on to my mum as I feel it would suit her more than me. It's not an age thing I hasten to add, just more that it's her kind of fragrance rather than something I would usually wear.
I have an exclusive code for my readers. This code gives you £5 off your first Birchbox. All you have to do is to sign up and add the code BBX5HOUSEWIFE in the relevant box. The code is only valid until August 31st so be quick! You won't regret your purchase.
After receiving Autumns Birchbox I feel my mind has been completely changes about beauty and lifestyle subscription boxes and feel there may well be a cheeky September box purchase happening next month.
I was sent the August Birchbox for the purpose of this review.
