Date Day and Date Night Ideas

We are big fans of date nights and date days and feel they are important for our marriage. It's nice to connect away from the house, and also without the distraction of children.
These dates don't have to be too regular, which I think can be something people are negative towards when it comes to the idea of date nights. Being limited in terms of babysitters can be tricky but one date night or date day in 3 months is enough, it's just about having that time together that is important. Quality not quantity.

When it comes to what you do for a date night or a date day, it doesn't have to be anything too big and fussy, it can be as simple as a picnic and a walk, a trip to the cinema, or of course it can be a posh meal, or a spa day.

I think for us it's easy to get into a routine of going for meals out, and this summer has been a lot about spending time as a family on the boat on any free days we've had. We haven't had a date day for a long while and is something we will be looking to do quite soon.

I've been thinking of some ideas for dates that are different to what we would usually do.

A Weekend Break in London

We are yet to have a night together without the boys (although this is happening in a couple of weeks when they stay at their grandads). For me the perfect couples break would be a weekend in London, being able to visit the museums that the boys wouldn't be interested in. We stayed at the Millenium Baileys in Kensington a couple of years ago and it was such a wonderful hotel, I really fell in love with it. I love Kensington and would probably choose to stay in this hotel again.

A Trip to the Opera

A trip to the opera is something I've always wanted to do. I like the idea of dressing up and feeling cultured.
I think the opera scene from Pretty Woman started my intrigue as well as the fact that my nanny used to be an opera singer when she was younger.
I can just imagine a night at a London hotel, going for a nice dinner, getting dressed up and then heading to the ENO to watch La boheme followed by a trip to a wine bar. What a wonderful weekend that would be.

A city tour

Last year we got the train to Norwich and visited the cathedral. Despite living near for years and years we had never visited. There was a service on when we first arrived so we could only go to certain areas but later on we went back and looked inside. We went for a little shopping treat, went for cocktails and then went for dinner at two different places.
I would love to look at a train timetable and pick a town or city to explore and to discover some new places to eat.

3 Courses, 3 Restaurants

When we went for our Norwich date day we ended up having a starter in one restaurant and then a main at Yo Sushi. This was mainly because the first place we went to for Tapas was quite slow and we didn't want to wait an hour for our mains. It actually turned out to be a really good idea, especially as Norwich has so many wonderful places to eat, so this is definitely something we would want to do again.

Making Sushi

We love visiting Yo Sushi, especially as you are able to watch the chefs make the different dishes. We would love to be able to have a go at this ourselves and I think it would make a great experience, especially if it was followed by a Sushi meal too.
